In January 2014 Colleen Hastings walks into Life Essentials and says, “I am a trained EOL (English as Another Language) teacher, could I be of use in your community centre?”
As we work with the CALD community and understand some of the barriers associated with language, we thank God for people like Colleen who offer their expertise and so we jumped on the opportunity to explore it further.
Well, here’s a shot of one of her classes that runs on a Wednesday morning. Many migrants and refugees cannot afford the education costs associated with learning English and Colleen fills that void in Bendigo.
Many you see in this picture have no recorded birthday and tend to record their date of birth as 1st January in a given year.
Well, Colleen decided to have a birthday party for everyone on her birthday and celebrate Aussie style!
Thanks Colleen for this MADCOW® moment.
